Canterbury's tribute to Big Joe

A tribute has taken place in Canterbury Cathedral for soldier Pte Joseva Vatubua today. Hundreds turned up for a moving celebration of the local man's life.
The soldier, also known as "Big Joe" was killed on New Years Eve by a bomb while serving with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Afghanistan.
He was on patrol in the Helmand Province when the bomb exploded.
Sadly, Joe had been planning to go to Figi upon his return to England to renew his wedding vows with wife Claudette.
His sister, Alumita Koto who was among those paying tribute to him said, “Being in the military was one of Joseva’s childhood dreams, of which he worked very hard to fulfil.
“Even though he was thousands of miles away from his family physically, he was with us spiritually, mentally and emotionally. We had him in out hearts, minds and prayers.”

Early medical abortions to take place at home?

Women having an early abortion should be able to choose where they take the abortion pill, according to The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS). This charity would like to change the law so that women will now be able to take either one or both of the pills (taken 24-48 hours apart necessary for an early abortion at home.

The Department of Health, which is against the law change say that abortion will become less of a big deal, and allowing women to do it in the comfort of their own homes will allow more women to undertake the procedure.

Flu kills 62 people in one week
The government said yesterday that the number of deaths caused by flu may not have reached its peak yet. A total of 62 people have died from flu in the past week, including six children under five, nine aged five to 14, and 70 aged 15 to 64. These figures come a day after mother of 3 year old Lana, who died from flu, urged the government to review its vaccination policy.

Dame Sally Davies, the government’s interim chief medical officer said, ‘As we cannot be certain yet that flu has peaked, I do call on all people in at-risk groups to come forward for vaccination.’
